Played JV as a 9th grader.....played on Varsity as a Sophomore.....played in every game on Varsity in the regular rotation as a Junior.......long and athletic.......a shot blocker who is a impacts the game both offensively and defensively......good post moves......lots of potential......a very hard worker.......provides valuable experience......played in and scored in two different state championship games......will be a big contributor on this seasons Panther squad......will attend the University of Florida next year......a very good student......4.4 GPA.
Coach Long's comments on Zach Pindar......."Zach has improved as much or more than just about any player I've ever had at Dr. Phillips. He came to us as a very raw, but talented kid in 9th grade and he has made himself into a very good basketball player. He has gotten a lot stronger physically and his game has gotten a lot more fluid and less mechanical over the last couple of years. Zach has played his way into becoming a big contributor to our team this year and into a college basketball scholarship next season. He's 6'9" and can shoot the ball well on the perimeter. His post play has improved dramatically. Zach is a very hard worker who is passionate about improving his game. His size brings a lot of new dimensions to the table. He gives us something that we've never really had since I've been at Dr. Phillips in a true shot blocking center. Zach has also become a leader off the court with this team. He is very enthusiastic about making himself a better player and that rubs off on the other guys. He's a great kid to work with and I look forward to where he will help lead us this season."

Played varsity as a sophomore......was the first forward off the bench last year on the varsity as a junior.....has played in two different state championship games in his two years so far on the varsity......already committed to play at Morehead State in Kentucky next season.......a very athletic wing who can and does change the game both offensively and defensively......can guard and has guarded every position on the floor......can play and has played every position on the floor......a very good finisher in transition......a very good shooter from behind the arch......has lots of varsity experience and experience in big games......had a great summer and really improved in all facets of the game......will be a starter and a big contributor to this years team......one of the most athletic players ever to play at DP.
Coach Long's comments on Roderick Lawrence......."Roderick is our most experienced varsity players. In his two years on the varsity he has played in two state championship games in addition to all the high pressure playoff games that led to that point. Rod was a huge factor for us last season. He was the difference in our regional final playoff game against Wharton that sent us to the final four. We don't win that game without Rod's incredible performance. Roderick has worked his way, not only into the starting lineup, but also a Division 1 basketball scholarship. Rod is a game changer on defense. We put him on the opponents best player and Rod usually locks them down. That's a part of the game that many don't see. Offensively Rod has really improved his shot to the point now where he is impacting the game big time offensively, especially with his 3 pont shot. He's so athletic that if you play up on him he can get to the rim in traffic and finishes well in traffic. He's has a great attitude and his hard work is paying off. Whenever we open the gym or the weightroom Roderick is there - busting his tail to get better. I'm really happy for him that all of his hard work is starting to pay off. He is becoming a leader on this team as well and will serve as one of our captains. If Rod continues to improve anywhere near the rate that he has been improving over the last two seasons then there isn't any reason why we won't be able to accomplish our team goals under his leadership. He has been a pleasure to coach over the past couple of seasons and I can't wait to see where he leads us this season."

Coach Long's comments on Issac Lane......"I'm really proud of Ike (Isaac). He has worked very hard in the classroom over his sophomore year to regain his eligibility when the easier option would have been to quit. He's shown me that basketball is important to him. His talent has never been an issue. Ike's one of just a handful of players that I put on the varsity as a freshman at Dr. Phillips in nine years. That's a testament to his talent on the court. He's our only returning starter, he's started in a state championship game so he's got big game experience. Not just experience, but Isaac has performed really well in the biggest games - district tournament and playoff games. Isaac has worked his way to the point where basketball will pay for his college education and that makes me really feel good, because he has come a long way to get to this point. Ike is a warrior and that's one of the highest compliments I can give. I want him next to me in war. He's a really talented basketball player and I like his passion for the game. He's a tough cover for opponents because of his offensive skill set. If you play up on him he's plenty quick enough to go by you, but if you play off him he's plenty talented enough to knock down the perimeter shot. I'm looking forward to watching Ike progress even further as a player and a person throughout his senior season at DP."

Coach Long's comments on Tay Hamberg......."We thought very highly of Tay's abilities when he entered DP as a 9th grader. We had him on the JV team which is difficult to make as a 9th grader. We thought then that Tay would be a big contributor to our program. Tay left Dr. Phillips for his 10th and 11th grade years, so we were pleasantly surprised when Tay re-enrolled at DP. I like Tay's athleticism especially on defense. He has the ability to be a lock-down defender. He's very athletic, willing to learn and be part of the program, and a hard worker. I believe he can help us become a better team this season and look forward to working with him again this year."

Played JV as a freshman......played Varisty last season as a sophomore which is a rarity at DP......can play multiple positions on offense and defend multiple positions on defense.....had a great summer where he established himself as a starter.......a very good defender.......very good in transition......has improved his shot and proved he can knock down the three over the summer.......has played his way into major minutes on varsity this season after not playing a lot last season......his athleticism really improves the team both on defense and in offensive transition.......has a good handle and can penetrate well both to the left and the right.......will be a big contributor on the varsity this season.
Coach Long's comments on Tyriefe Beard........"I love Tyriefe's work ethic and attitude. Everyone desperately wants to play and Tyriefe didn't get to play a lot last year on the varsity and that was frustrating for him. Tyriefe never complained and continued to bust his tail every day in practice to improve his game so he could play more. Well, that hard work has paid off. It's his turn now and Tyriefe is performing great now in his expanded role on the varsity. For him just to be able to make the varsity last season as a sophomore is a testament to his ability and that year of experience is now paying dividends as Tyriefe is now one of our better players on the team. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens by dedication, commitment, and a fight-through-adversity type attitude which Tyriefe has displayed. His versatility is very important to us. I can plug him in as a guard or a forward and he performs well in both positions. He is a very talented basketball player and has a huge upside and potential to get even better. I'm glad Tyriefe is just a junior. I look forward to watching his progress over the next two seasons."

Was the first guard off the bench on Varsity last season playing behind two time first team All-State selection Shane Larkin (Miami)......was an offensive spark coming off the bench last season......an ultra quick point guard who can get into the paint against anyone......very good at making the right decision once he's in the paint......a great 'drive, draw, and dish' guy as well as scorer......his skill set is really advanced for his age......deadly in transition.......shoots the three very well......is next in line in the tradition of Panther great point guards (Chris Warren - Ole Miss; Shane Larkin - Miami; Jason Rich - Florida State; Mario Sisinni - Coastal Carolina)......already had multiple Division 1 scholarship offers before he's played a game in his junior season......has a great chance to become the Panthers next All-State player......ranked the #11 point guard in the nation in the Class of 2013 by ESPN.
Coach Long's comments on RaShawn Powell....."RaShawn is next in line in continuing Dr. Phillips' run of excellent lead guards. His skill set is really at an advanced level for a junior. He can get to the rim almost any time he wants and usually makes good decisions with the ball. He presents a lot of problems for defenses because if you play off of him, he'll drain the perimeter shot, but if you play him tight he will get by you every time. RaShawn already has multiple division 1 scholarship offers. That's a pretty good indicator of what kind of game he has. He was clutch for us last season as a sophomore. I've only had a handful of sophomores that have made as big of impact on the team as a sophomore than RaShawn did last season. I don't know if we would have even advanced out of the district tournament against Wekiva if it hadn't been for RaShawn's play in that game. RaShawn can get by anyone who plays him tight. Some high school guards can do that, but what separates him from the others is what he does with the ball after he gets by someone. It's always the right decision. If you play off, he'll knock down the jumper everytime. We have had several guards at DP honored as first team all state selections and I believe that Rashawn is next in line. His presence makes our team really tough to beat. He's one of the better offensive players that I have had the privilege to coach."

He now knows and is comfortable with all of our offenses and defenses and his game is getting better and better. He had a great summer for us. His play was very important in our summer success. He's always been a good shooter, but now his defense and ball handling is much better and the result is that Pedro is moving up the depth chart and should be more of a contributor on the varsity this season."

He's athletic, can play multiple positions, can guard multiple positions, and is very good in transition. He has a good skill set and just needs experience. Shawn had a very good summer and is still learning all of our plays and adapting to the speed of the varsity game. Bench Press Max - 15 lbs
Squat Max - 20 lbs
Dunking the ball at just ll months old at his home goal......95th percentile in height at birth and his third year checkup.......has excellent hops.....wore out his bouncy chair.....jumps on the furniture all the time......makes nearly all of his shots at home......has to be shooting at least 80% from the floor.....is amphibious - dunks with either hand......hasn't quite figured out how to dribble the ball yet but is working hard at it......has great foot speed and already a strong finisher......considering Duke, Carolina, and UCLA but has made it known he will drop Duke from his list if Coach K is not coaching when he signs his letter of intent.
Ryan's already practicing outside in the cold weather!
Coach Long's comments on Ryan Long......"Ryan's potential is unlimited. He's been working on his game since birth so he's got a head start on most. I'm pretty sure I've got a future Dirk Nowitski on my hands here....he's tall, can shoot from the outside and take it to the hole. I'll bet my mortgage that he can take any 3 year old or younger in a game of one on one which would put him at the top of the national rankings for the Class of 2026. BabyRivals and Baby Scout have him ranked as the #1 player in the country for 2026. As long as he continues to develop and grow Ryan will soon be over 4 feet tall and after that....look out world!"
Ryan throws down another two handed power slam!
